What is the AVC (Aviso de Cruce) crossing notice

Updated:

The AVC (Aviso de Cruce) is the mechanism from Mexico's customs agency, ANAM, that eases entry of goods and their transport into the customs area and triggers the automated selection mechanism (MSA). It is identified by a 24-character folio — “AVC” followed by 21 digits — and you can check its status with that folio.

What is the AVC?

According to ANAM's published FAQ, the crossing notice is the mechanism that eases entry of goods and their means of transport into the customs facility and triggers the Automated Selection Mechanism at the customs offices where it already operates.

It is generated by external users registered with ANAM: customs brokers, their representatives and accredited legal representatives.

Folio format

The folio is 24 characters long: the letters “AVC” followed by 21 digits, with no spaces or dashes. Example: AVC000000000000000000000 (illustrative only, not a real folio).

Validity and changes

  • In its first phase, an AVC is valid for 7 calendar days.
  • It can be edited or deleted as long as it has not been activated in the MSA and is still valid.
  • If it expires unused, a new one must be generated; it cannot be reactivated or extended.

How to read the status

ANAM publishes the status and it changes as the operation moves forward. DODA Verify shows the AVC status and the clearance status with a color so you can read them at a glance: green for cleared or valid, amber for review or inspection, red for cancelled, expired or not found. The official text is always shown exactly as the lookup returns it.

How the AVC relates to the DODA

In the current phase ANAM says both documents are still presented, with double modulation: the DODA is processed in MATCE and the AVC in the crossing-notice MSA. That is why it pays to check both before the truck reaches the border. DODA Verify lets you verify the DODA and look up the AVC in one place.
